Your walk around the island is self-guided and suitable for all ages. Discover the intriguing history dating back to the days of prohibition along with some great photo opportunities.

Often called the jewel of Wanaka, Ruby is small but very photogenic. The eclectic mix of exotic and native plants adds a foreground to the colors of the lake and the mountains behind.

Please note that on some public holidays other boating traffic may prevent us from landing at Ruby Island. In this case the skipper will continue around Ruby Island and on to a 1 hour scenic cruise on Lake Wanaka.

What to Bring Please bring your own bottled water & snacks, camera, hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. A warm jacket is advised as cool temperatures can occur at any time of the year.

The Island walk takes 20 minutes and rises 20 m above the beach on an average track. An average level of fitness and mobility is advised for this experience. Although this trip is self-guided the vessel skipper may accompany you when possible.

Please wear rugged soled outdoor shoes or boots with a good tread for grip.

The Island walk is not compulsory. You may remain on the boat, at the beach on the island or complete part of the walk.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Subject to favorable weather conditions. If cancelled due to poor weather, you will be given the option of an alternative date or full refund.

Due to uneven surfaces, this experience is not recommended for those with walking disabilities or using a wheelchair.
